There is an ongoing debate about the role of homework in education. Some people believe that schools should completely eliminate homework because it puts too much pressure on students. Others argue that homework plays an important role in learning by helping students reinforce their knowledge. This essay will discuss both perspectives and present my opinion.
On the one hand, removing homework could reduce stress levels among students. Many children are already overwhelmed with schoolwork, and after a long day at school, they need time to rest, spend time with family, and engage in hobbies. Additionally, studying independently at home is not always effective, as students may make mistakes and lack immediate support. In some countries, such as Finland, the education system successfully operates with little to no homework.
On the other hand, homework helps students consolidate what they have learned and develop self-study skills. By completing assignments at home, students learn to manage their time and work independently, which is beneficial for their future. Moreover, practice is essential for mastering difficult subjects such as mathematics and foreign languages.
In conclusion, both views have valid points. However, in my opinion, homework should not be completely abolished, but its amount should be reduced. This would help lower students’ workload while still allowing them to benefit from independent study.
