Band 6+: some people think that studying history is a waste of time while others believe that it is essential to lear, discuss both sides and give your opinion

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In modern society, history, which was once an interesting module to cover, has become one of the most underrated subjects that most student tend to neglect. While some consider a supplementary subject that must be erased from the syllabus, others argue that is crucial to take knowledge of the past. This essay will explore both viewpoints before articulating my position, which aligns more closely with latter perspective.

Firstly, History about far-gone events that does not come with any benefit to the human being reading it. It is a subject that involves complex studies about archaic events, mostly stories without any base of truth since they are written by historians that are subjective people and politicians who were ready to bend the actual course of the event to meet their personal purposes. Moreover, it is a challenging subject to grasp since it involves a lot of retention, this is why schools tend to teach only a portion of it that is repeated over the years, which makes it utterly useless and a waste of a time that maybe dedicated for more worthy modules.

On the other hand, History is an invaluable resource to learn lessons from our ancestors. People with insatiable desire to understand the early beginning of life, or ones with curiosity to evoke the stories behind the ruins seen around the world can rely on it to get answers. Learning about past experiences such as wars and ancient civilisations, enables the student to extract lessons from their failures to enhance future decision-making and avoid the same pitfalls, especially for to-come politicians and leaders. Additionally, it enhances their long-term memory and builds their general culture.

In conclusion, I firmly contend that impractical and unreasonable to consider history a splurge of time. While going through the same exact same programme over the years could be tiring and ineffective, it remains a fundamental subject by which someone could grow his mindset.
