Band 5+: Some people think that the government should decide which subjects, students should study at the university, while others think that students should be allowed to apply for the subject they prefer. Discuss the two views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Public debate has arisen over whether students’ subject should be chosen by themselves, or whether goverments have the right to decide. In my opinion, the former situation is more logical, and I shall explain my perspective in forthcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, some may argue that considering each persons abilities, governments can make a logical choice. While, not only do students may get influenced by their emotions, but also they may get distacted by trends. For example, most people believe that doctors have good income and they live easily, therefore they persuade their children to study medicane regardless of what they adore. What is not taken in mind is that although most doctors spend money through their noses, they study hard courses for many years, moreover, they have hard jobs standing for long hours for surguries. Hence, many aspects should be considred before choosing one’s major other than its salary.

On the other hand, critics assume that it is of the humans right to have the freedom to decide what they want to study. They argue that no other person knows exactly what is another human’s interests, no matter how well they know each other. Furthermore, if studing just one major is possible for each student, and they are obligated, there is a high probability that most students quit studing at early ages, or they may not learn well due to lack of interest; thus, the professional workforce will be decreased or inefficient. It will then lead to many problems, such as not having enough engineer to work for industries.

To conclude, to my mind forcing young tutees to enroll in specific courses may cause many issues. Mainly due to the fact that they may do not like them, and even they continue studing there is a high chance that they do not get experts in their jobs.

The media should be free to publish whatever they want. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is claimed that the media should be free to publish whatever they want. I completely disagree with this view for three main reasons. One major drawback of allowing the media to publish any information they wish is the publication of inappropriate content. The younger generation might follow the media and may receive inappropriate content. […]
