Some people believe that the increasing reliance on technological devices such as smartphones and computers is negatively impacting teenagers’ fundamental skills. From my perspective, I partly agree with this view for the reasons discussed below.
On the one hand, technological devices can have a positive impact, especially on young people. The rapid development of technology and the widespread availability of the Internet provide access to vast amounts of information on various fields such as medicine, archaeology, literature, and science. This enables young people to research and prepare for academic tasks such as presentations or dissertations. Consequently, they can not only expand their specialized knowledge but also refine essential skills such as writing and effective communication, which are crucial for securing stable and well-paying jobs.
On the other hand, excessive use of these devices can lead to negative consequences. The rise of online games and social media platforms often results in over-dependence among teenagers. Many spend hours glued to their screens, immersing themselves in virtual environments that may expose them to harmful content such as inappropriate videos or cyberbullying. Over time, this can contribute to antisocial behavior, eroding their confidence in face-to-face interactions and diminishing their ability to tackle real-world challenges. Furthermore, prolonged screen time may hinder the development of writing skills, as informal communication on social media often replaces structured and thoughtful writing.
In conclusion, while the overuse of technological devices can adversely affect teenagers’ communication and writing skills, I believe these tools also provide significant opportunities for personal and academic growth when used appropriately.
