The increasing demand of international tourism is believed to have more drawbacks than benefits. Admittedly, this global trend can lead to negative consequences, I nevertheless believe that it brings more advantages in the long run.
One of the main reasons why this perspective is widely supported is that the tourist trade is a valuable source of income for many countries. Increased demand from tourists can boost local economies and local businesses. Additionally, it creates more job opportunities for citizens so it particularly adresses one of the major issues. It is not only beneficial to society, but also increases a country’s competitiveness in the global economy since the more tourists the country is willing to attract, the more improvements in many industries would probably accure. For this reason, I find this perspective more convincing.
The opposite viewpoint, however, is based on the belief that historical buildings can be damaged by large numbers of tourists. This is because it is extremely challenging to take in control activities of hordes of tourists as some people who visit heritage structures are not respectful and purposely cause damage. However, this is not to say that this risks can not be prevented. By taking effective measures, such as limiting the number of individuals who can visit historical buildings or any other tourist attractions. Thus, country’s cultural value is likely to increase and it offers safety for tourists themselves.
To conclude, while both viewpoints have their own merits, I remain convinced that tourist industry makes up a large proportion of the national income and contributes to country development. However, authorities should take attempts to reduce safety concerns.
