It is argued that while the technological advancement has widened the gap between the financially disadvantaged and the wealthy, others contend it has helped to narrow this divide. I personally believe that technology is more beneficial to the rich than to the poor.
Thanks to automation and technological advancements, individuals have a greater opportunity to acquire modern skills and life would be more convenient. In other words, they can access to a vast amount of information within seconds.Technology reduces barriers related to gender, nationality, language, and social background, allowing individuals to develop these skills. Besides, technology has enabled people to earn income regardless of where they live. A programming student ,for example, may study in their hometown while working remotely for a large company related in the UK. Having said that, automation has made life easier than in the past by improving efficiency in many jobs. For instance, robots can perform repetitive tasks, and technology can assist doctors in carrying out surgeries more accurately.
However, automation tends to bring considerably greater benefits to wealthy families than to poorer ones. Firstly, affluent families can invest in private online courses and advanced digital devices for their children, preparing them to secure well-paid careers in the future, while low-income households may struggle to afford even basic internet access, which limits their educational and employment prospects. More importantly, advancement has replaced many low-skilled jobs, unintentionally affected poorer people whereas benefiting those who own technological capital. As a result, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds face a higher risk of unemployment even though the generated profit by wealthy investors is on the rise.
To sum up, it seems to me that although technological advancement has undoubtedly improved living standards and created new opportunities, its benefits are distributed unevenly, the disadvantaged groups can not afford the advantages of automation due to its high expenses.
