A huge issue that has appeared in modern society is animal rights and the actual role of zoos. Some people believe that the lives of wild animals in a zoo provide violent and cruel conditions, a sort of prison for these living creatures. Meanwhile, other people think that zoos play an important role in saving animals on the verge of extinction.
I am strongly supporting a second opinion. First of all, humans have an incredible effect on nature in general. One little rat that was accidentally transported to a new land by humans can easily spread unknown illnesses to locals and cause the extinction of rare species. So, I believe that it is better to protect them from possible competition between different species as well as food competition that usually causes the death of the weaker side.
However, another side of the conflict believes that wild creatures are badly treated by the stuff members and zoo visitors, who perform as slaves in people’s eyes. Some customers might have quite abusive behavior, causing harm to wild creatures by trying to physically hurt them or poison them with low-quality food, intentionally or unintentionally. Stuff members have even more power over animals than anyone else because they can directly interact with animals inside the cage.
In conclusion, although some people arguing that zoos provide cruel conditions for wild animals, while others believe they play a crucial role in saving endangered species, I strongly believe that zoos are the best option the humanity could make so far, balancing between the lack of freedom and safe environment.
