Some people claim governments should not spend money on international aid because there are many disadvantaged people in their own countries, such as the unemployed and homeless. I completely disagree with this statement.
My opinion is that governments should help both their own people and those in other countries. If the government invests in welfare programs, job creation or building houses for homeless people, it can more easily ensure social stability. These investments help to build a stronger, durable society, also reducing poverty and social inequality. After these investments the government will not need to spend too much money for aid. They can even collect donations from volunteers to make commercials. On the other hand, in some developing countries like the USA, people becoming homeless is their own choice.
Similarly, the importance of international aid should not be underestimated. Problems in one country can quickly change global issues. War and diseases in other countries can cause migration. For example, during the Syrian war, over 10 million Syrian citizens came to Turkey. This was a problem for both the economy and development of Turkey. Additionally, aiding the economy can lead to the create of new markets for goods and services. This can help countries develop. Furthermore, international aid has a significant role in improving diplomatic relationships. In war, some countries donate medical assistance to poor countries, to create a good impression on the world.
To summarize, it is crucial for governments to help their own homeless and unemployed citizens, they should also continue providing international aid, because they need to make balance to domestic and global problems.
