Band 8+: Some people think the money spent in developing the technology for space exploration is not justified. There are more beneficial ways to spend this money. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

There is an ongoing debate about whether authorities should allocate substantial amounts of money to the development of technology for space exploration or invest these funds in other sectors that may provide greater benefits to society. I partly agree with this viewpoint, as ignoring investment in the development of space programmes may hinder technological progress. However, I am more convinced that public funds should be prioritized for essential sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure, as these areas have a more immediate and direct impact on people’s quality of life.

Perhaps the most significant benefit of space development is enhancing communication systems by producing new products that allow people to communicate without limits. When people move abroad without their relatives, they are more likely to communicate without any difficulties, thereby having the opportunity to use high-quality apps. This is exemplified by Uzbek people who go to work in foreign countries to meet their needs, such as education, overcoming financial barriers, and the cost of living. That is why most of them use communication apps such as WhatsApp, Imo, and Telegram. Therefore, devoting financial resources to space exploration may be beneficial for people who do not have the opportunity to see their families without these developments.

I, on the other hand, do believe that governments should increase investment in other facilities that are equally crucial for a country’s development. From my perspective, improving the healthcare system and infrastructure would bring more immediate benefits to both society and the government. Constructing new road infrastructure and employing experienced medical professionals could generate additional revenue for public funds by attracting foreign visitors to use these facilities. The benefits are not confined to economic growth but also extend to improving residents’ quality of life, ultimately strengthening the country’s healthcare and transport systems. A prime example would be China, which has invested heavily in healthcare and infrastructure, resulting in a high standard of living.

In conclusion, although investing in space exploration can promote technological progress, I strongly believe that governments should give greater priority to sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure because they provide more immediate and tangible benefits to society.
