It is a common belief that children should engage in traditional games instead of modern games to develop their abilities more effectively. While I acknowledge why some people may oppose this belief, I strongly believe it for several reasons.
Opponents of this opinion may have several arguments. They may well argue that, compared to traditional games, a number of modern games, especially online games, could provide young people with the opportunity to communicate with many other users from different nations more frequently. As a result, children playing such games are likely to have more chances to practice their language skills, which may enhance their abilities to use a language effectively. However, this is only true in a few cases when children have a purpose of learning a language. In fact, a majority of children tend to solely focus on carrying out these games’ tasks instead of communicating with foreign players.
Therefore, I still firmly agree that traditional games play a better role in assisting teenagers in developing their potential abilities. Chief among these is that traditional games seem to help children improve their social abilities. This is because traditional games tend to consist of many outdoor and group-based activities and therefore require children to meet and communicate with their friends frequently. Thanks to this requirement, children can efficiently develop their abilities to emotionally and verbally connect with their society. Another reason is that traditional games arguably play a vital role in improving children’s physical abilities. By engaging in outdoor and physical activities of traditional games, children may lead a more healthy lifestyle, compared to taking part in online modern games that would result in a sedentary lifestyle.
In conclusion, although I understand the benefits of playing modern games in helping children develop their abilities, particularly language abilities, I am of the opinion that engaging in traditional games is better in improving children’s social and physical abilities.
