In today’s modern society, there is a controversial topic about whether punishment is the most effective way to discipline children to behave well or whether encouraging them with rewards leads to better outcomes. While some people believe that retribution helps the youth by shaping their actions, others argue that rewards are a more suitable approach. In this essay, the writer will promptly discuss both views of the said topic and give own opinion that a balanced combination of punishment and rewards is the most effective way to teach children.

First and foremost, it is an undeniable fact that punishment is often regarded as an effective way to correct children’s inappropriate behavior. By using suitable forms of discipline, adults can help children clearly distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable actions, especially in terms of basic etiquette. As a result, teenagers are more likely to avoid repeating such negative behaviour in the future. In addition, discipline is a relatívely simple method that can be applied by most parents and teachers without equating special skills or resources. However, it must be used carefully and appropriately so that it serves as a guidance rather than creating fear or having a detrimental impact on the development of children’s emotions.

On the other hand, it should be stressed that providing incentives is often regarded as a powerful way to encourage desirable actions. When youngsters receive praise for behaving well, this not only helps them reinforce good behavior but also encourages them to associate ethical actions with positive outcomes. Moreover, this strategy can be applied in various contexts, ranging from family settings to educational environments, which makes it highly practical. Nevertheless, such incentives should be given in moderation, as overuse may cause children to depend on external motivation rather than their own self-awareness.

To recapitulate, both discipline and rewards contribute to the awareness of appropriate

behavior at a young age. In the author’s opinion, a balanced usage of these two methods will certainly lead to a better outcome.
