Opinion are divided on whether music is an important factor to society or whether it is just another kind of entertainment. While I may acknowledge the reasons behind the latter view, but I am in still of favour of the former.
Those who believe that music is simply another form of entertainment may have several arguments. From their perspective, they assume that people have a wide range of entertainment forms so music is far from being crucial. Specifically, people claims that they certainly have many leisure activities such as hiking, swimming , and shopping that can act as a healthier choice to be an escape from the harsh reality, thereby holding a belief that listening to music is just as another mean of relaxation. For example, Asian kids are likely to get scolded whenever their parents see them wearing a headphones and then constantly ask them to be more energetic and active by means of taking physical activities. Another possible arguments is that the better the music industry is, the more it becomes over commercialized. In fact, in the past few years , a considerable number of songs have been created solely for lucrative purpose instead of coveying a deep message that can reflect important values such as identity or customs. For example, a significant number of audiences in VietNam recently boycott the rise of modern songs that contains only insulting words, which may put the country on the verge of losing its cultural beauty.
Nevertheless,I still hold the belief that music plays a key role in society for several reasons.Chief among is that music reflects meaningful values of a country. To be specific, when it comes to traditional or revolutionary music, songs from these two genres always have existed along with the formation of the country, which holds cultural values and long-lasting history of a country . In fact, all countries on the world have a national athem that can only be sung in special or national event, thereby showing their pride and love to the land they was born on the global scale. The second reason worth mentioning is that the economy can benefit from music industry. This is because when holding national and international concerts, a huge amount of money can contribute to a country through tickets, celebrities’s merches and even accommodations , thereby giving a boost to the domestic economy. For example, the concert of Ha Anh Tuan, a Vietnamese singer , by donating money that he got from a lucrative concert, has made a considerable improvement on the flooding condition of VietNam.
In conclusion, it is understandable that people may see music is simply a form of entertainment. However, I would take the view that music has a great impact on society.
