Nowadays, many schools have decided to encourage students to travel or work for a period of time before going to university. From my perspective, there are many advantages and disadvantages to this practice that should be taken into consideration.
One of the reasons why I believe the gap year is beneficial is that students can travel overseas, where they can learn about new cultures and customs in different countries and acquire new knowledge. They can also make a lot of new friends, which can provide them with more social support. Furthermore, they can relax after 12 years of hard work, reducing their stress and gaining more energy for the next phase of their education. Another reason why I agree with the gap year is that it can help students find the field they are most interested in pursuing in the future.
On the other hand, when people take a gap year, they may forget what they have learned. For example, after a long break, they may not review the material, and they can lose the knowledge they had gained. The second reason is that people may become lazy and lose the motivation to study anymore, as they prefer to travel and relax. However, they can also lose the opportunity to get a scholarship, as universities may cancel the scholarship if the student is not enrolled during the gap year, and they can miss out on the financial support and the chance to study at the universities that offered the scholarship.
In summary, gap years not only have benefits but also have some drawbacks. In my opinion, we should find a balance between the two approaches to learning to achieve the best outcome.
