Mobile phones usage has been limited in some school. In my opinion, this is a positive development which can lead to the increase of students’ focus and communication skills.
The foremost benefit of limiting the usage of mobile phones in school is increasing students’ focus. Focusing on the lesson is very important in the learning process. If students cannot focus on the teaching, then they would barely understand the knowledge as it is the purpose of why student go to school. It happened to students who use mobile phones in school. They get distracted from studying in class because there are notifications from messages, social media, and other channels which use vibration, sound, and light. In addition, some people are addicted to games and social media which can be accessed on mobile phones. Therefore, the use of mobile phones in school needs to be limited to increase students’ focus.
Another issue caused by using mobile phones in school is lack of communication skills. In contrast with the main use of mobile phones as communication tools, mobile phones create a social gap between the internet and reality. For instance, some people easily message others on WhatsApp using smile emoticons when they are sad. However, internet is not reality where people meet others face to face. In result, some students often find it difficult to talk to their friends or present their project in front of class.
In conclusion, although mobile phones are useful, the use of mobile phones should be restricted so students are focus to their study and their communication skills are not negatively impacted.
