Band 6+: some students choose to work or travel after leaving school and before going to university. Do you agree or disagree

In the contemporary world, there is an ongoing argument about professional exposure is more valuable for students compared to travelling before entering university. From my point of view, while I wholeheartedly concur to this arrangement, I also belive that taking a gap year to travelling brings students various important insights and essential skills.

On the one hand, supporters of travelling often claim that this approach offers several significant benefits. To begin with, travelling allows students to broaden their horizons and worldwide knowledge. To be precise, they might foster creative thinking and problem-solving abilities from exploring different vibrant cultures, lifestyles and perspectives. As a result, students are likely to be more holistic when making decisions thanks to general views they obtained and easily adapt to challenges in their lives. Another noteworthy benefit of this trend is that travelling serves as a catalyst for students to develop soft skills, which plays a crucial role in handling difficulties. Indeed, in the period of self-discovery and personal growth, students can learn how to be independent, enhancing budget management skills as well as abilities to overcome obstacles in unfamiliar situations. Consequently, they tend to be more open-minded and ready to face with barriers regardless of any cases.

On the other hand, I strongly opine that job experience is more precious than taking trips for numerous key points, chief among which is the improvement of crucial hands-on skills that are often not covered in university courses. For instance, students can take advantages from engaging in practical activities, especially communication skills, teamwork and time management, which are really invaluable for their career path. Subsequently, it brings students a sense of confidence and can easily adapt to professional working environments in the future. In addition, work experience also offers students the chance to accumulate relevant expertise. To illustrate, professional exposure is useful for students to comprehend in-depth insights their prefered aspects and build a firm foundation for their career in the future. As a consequence, they will have more competitibe edge in labor market compared to those who lack of work experience.

In conclusion, while work experience equips students with practical abilities and professional network, travel enhance personal growth and broaden global perspectives on life. Thus, students should consider their circumstances and inspiration when deciding how to spend time after leaving high school and before embarking on university.
