Band 7+: Some students choose to work or travel after leaving school and before going to university. Many people, however, say that working experience is more useful in adult life than travel. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

More and more scholars prefer to work or travel after graduating from high school and before applying to higher education. Several individuals, on the other hand, have a different opinion. They say that job experience is more beneficial in adult life than travelling. However, in my opinion, I totally disagree with the statement.

First of all, I believe that pupils should have a gap year between high school and further education. This gap year must be spent in traveling and exploring the world, not working. Traveling before applying to university is absolutely beneficial, it will expand their knowledge in terms of customs and cultures. In addition, traveling will drive students to explore their interests, desires, and even university opportunities. Evidence for this appears in my personal experience. After high school I took a traveling gap year, exploring the United States of America. Gladly, I discovered my field of interest which is computer science. Believe it or not, I got an offer to apply for Stanford University in California! That shows how travelling during the gap year is truly crucial.

Another reason for my opinion is that traveling before college will develop the social characteristics of the scholars. In other words, a trip outside the country will lead to making variety of friends and maybe life partners. Meeting new people from various cultures and norms will change a person’s perspective on life. For instance, my father’s best friend Karim converted to Islam after meeting my father and his friends during a traveling trip to Munich, Germany. This illustrates that traveling cultivates students social skills.

To conclude, from my perspective I strongly believe that traveling before going to university is the excellent choice, instead of working. College application opportunities, exploring new cultures, and being advanced socially are all attainable by wandering around the world. Scholars traveling during the gap year will be positively metamorphosed mentally.
