On the one hand, there are a number of reasons why students choose to work towards their own long-term goals or desires. Firstly, they can grow and improve in their own way, carving their own path and learning the ropes as they go. For example, a student passionate about art may find great joy in becoming a painter rather than taking over a family business. Whereas walking in their parents’ footsteps can sometimes feel like being stuck in a mold, limiting their potential to think outside the box and create their own success. Secondly, they get to think outside the box and bring fresh ideas to the table. To illustrate, many successful entrepreneurs have started their own businesses rather than continuing their parents’ professions. Conversely, following a set path may keep them in their comfort zone, leaving little chance for originality and innovation.
On the other hand, there are a few reasons why individuals choose to follow in their parents footsteps. Firstly, they can remain financially secure without having to worry about making ends meet. For instance, inheriting a successful restaurant ensures a steady livelihood without the uncertainty of starting from scratch Furthermore, it is a family tradition, something that has been passed down from generation to generation. To be specific, in some families, becoming a doctor is not just a career choice—it is a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation, with each member following in the footsteps of their parents. However, some choose to follow the family tradition of becoming doctors; others prefer to chase their own dreams, believing that passion matters more than legacy.
In my opinion, I believe one should pursue one’s own dreams or ambitions for the future for the reasons mentioned above.
