Recreational activities such as sports provoke a competitive attitude among students instead of brotherhood and unity. Thus, sports should not be continued at schools. I strongly oppose this statement.
There are several reasons why I believe sports should be promoted in schools. First and foremost, sports are an excellent form of exercise that helps students stay fit. By playing football, for example, students can develop stronger immunity against common diseases that are impossible to find in those who do not like to engage in sports. Furthermore, sports entertain school-going boys and girls, helping them feel refreshed. As a result, it is often observed that students who participate in sports also perform well academically.
In addition, sports help students build relationships. This is because they play as a team or a unit, which brings them closer and enables them to make friends. It also enhances their teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. Moreover, sports are essential for both the physical and mental health of an individual. They contribute significantly to students’ physical well-being by strengthening the lungs, bones, and heart. Apart from that, they help reduce blood sugar level and control weight. Many studies reveal that sports may play a therapeutic role in addressing a number of psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, insomnia and so on.
In conclusion, although sports may foster competition, I firmly believe that having sports in schools is far more beneficial for the physical and mental development of students.
