Students are going to perform better academically, when they are rewarded, rather than punished. I totally agree with this statement, because according to my life experience at school, rewards always motivated you to do better and to accomplish things you never accomplished before.
There are lots of pupils, performing better in school, because their parents are giving them some pocket money, for every good grade they got. My parents always tried to encourage me to do well at school. I wasn’t the smartest kid. I lacked patience and motivation to have perfect grades, but I was highly into skating at that time. So, when my parents promised me, that they will buy me a new skateboard, my grades rocketed up immediately. I finished that semester incredibly good. There also lots of pros to it.
For example, rewarding students for their academic results are heavily influenced by scholarship ship system in Universities, so if you are going to reward pupils at school, they probably going to apply to scholarship in future. Also it’s great motivation for them, that can increase their attendance and boost patience and motivation. But there are some cons to it.
Such as rewarding students for nothing. In my opinion, you always need to do something, to get a reward. If parents going to reward pupils for bad academic results or low attendance, just because their child “tried”, it will get only worse from that point.
Rewarding students at their school years, are really good idea. They will certainly perform better at any academic level in further life and spend less money on education, because of scholarship.
