There is a thought that school should teach academic knowledge for students to pass exams instead of other skills like cooking or dressing. From my point of view, I partly agree with that statement, for I, for believe these skills, which people think are not important, should be taught together with the academic subjects.
On the one hand, studying academic knowledge is vital for students in many ways. First, academic subjects play an important role in high school, for they are considered to equip students with fundamental knowledge for the national high school exam. For example, most undergraduates in Vietnam are required to pass the subjects such as Maths, Physics and Chemistry if they desire to go into the Technology and Science university. Without a deep understanding, students may fail the exams and have to study these subjects again to take the test. Second, students’ academic performance is essential for students’ records which assists students to go directly to university. As a result, students and their parents put more effort into academic knowledge than skills.
On the other hand, practical skills should be considered as well because of their benefits. In fact, attending skill building classes is a chance for students to unwind after many hours of studying stressful academic subjects, and these relaxations can help students improve their academic performance. Moreover, there is an increase in the number of exams requiring practical skills, so students also need to learn these skills as well.
In conclusion, while there are many discussions around teaching academic knowledge to students so that they can pass exams, I still believe that other skills such as cooking or dressing should be taught altogether.
