There is a thought that school should teach academic knowledge for students to pass exams instead of other skills like cooking or dressing. From my point of view, I totally disagree with that opinion. I believe these skills, which people think are not important, should be taught together with the regular ones.
First of all, I agree that passing exams is very important for students. The exam could be considered as a measurement of a student’s knowledge and ability. For example, when kids apply for undergraduate programs, the university may look at their qualifications, which are shown by their test results. Moreover, this will make parents feel that their children are doing well with their studies. Therefore, the advantages of teaching academic knowledge are without a doubt.
However, the importance of teaching side skills should be considered as well because of its benefits. Some relevant skills, including cooking, dressing, and painting, could help students improve their personal and social skills, which will support them at work. For instance, dressing skills could let people choose the right outfit for particular occasions and make them look more impressive in others’ eyes. Therefore, they will be more confident and have more connections socially. These are the reasons why I believe these skills should be taught at school.
In conclusion, while there are many discussions around teaching academic knowledge to students so that they can pass exams, I still believe that other skills such as cooking or dressing should be taught altogether.
