Band 6+: Students should pay the full cost of their own study because university education When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this contemporary world, it is undeniable the fact that many countries strive to augment their technology, yet this can lead to the loss of significant traditional values. Although advanced technology does have a negative impact on social values, suggesting it is fruitless to preserve these values is far beyond the breadth of issues. This essay will argue that while technology could make traditional and current values wipe out to a certain extent, it is still feasible to implement sufficient implementation for conservation.

On one hand, numerous causes are obviously mentioned when referring to the drawbacks of technology enhancement, which is supposed to wipe out social values. First, the rapid spread of digital communication has reduced face-to-face interactions, weakening personal and community bonds. Digital communication tools like smartphones, social media and messaging apps provide an instant and handy way to communicate, making them the preferred method over arranging interpersonal meetings. Consequently, this shift has led to a risk of social fragmentation as meaningful relationships often require physical presence that digital platforms cannot fully adapt. Second, with the rise of technology, cultural practices could be neglected. Specifically, as society becomes more technology-driven, there is often a shift towards industrialisation and modernization, thereby forgetting various traditional values . For example, in some developing countries, young professional individuals tend to move to urban areas in pursuit of better work opportunities offered by industrial companies instead of practicing traditional agriculture, which used to be a vital part of individuals’ lives.

However, several strategies could be implemented to conserve traditional skills, irrespective of computerization. One of the most tailored approaches is to support cultural initiatives and institutions. This can be achieved by providing subsidies, sponsors and grants to cultural museums, community organizations dedicated to preserving social values. For example, in Vietnam, the government provides grants to support folk and traditional art projects that promote cultural sustainability among diverse communities. Furthermore, fostering intergenerational transfer is crucial. Initiatives such as mentorship programs, where skilled artists pass down traditional skills to the younger generation, is pivotal in ensuring continuity. These programs not only preserve craftsmanship but also strengthen the community bonds and empower youth with cultural pride and identity.

In conclusion, while it is irrefutable that strong technology advancement could pose a significant threat to social values related to the reduction in personal conversation and the limitation of traditional practices, sufficient and proper approaches could solve these issues. Therefore, the government should strike a balance, creating conditions for technology development while proposing measures to protect traditional values.
