Nowadays, children tend to be much more drawn to television than they used to, therefore recreational or energetic pursuits are slowly diminished. Although several factors may attribute to this problem, I believe there are suitable solutions that can be implemented.
One such factor is that parents often find themselves burdened with a heavy workload, which can be challenging for them to supervise their children adequately. Consequently, they might resort to cartoon shows in order to keep their children occupied and not disrupt the household while they play. For example, there are platforms offering a plethora of captivating videos, which children can interact with, namely Youtube Kids. Another contribution to a child’s constant screen time is that there are less open space playgrounds for them to play than there were in the past. This might stem from the fact that there used to be abandoned buildings or parks where children could take advantage of and transform them into their own desired playground. However, with the technological advancements, comes more infrastructure developments, meaning that those derelict areas would be repurposed for industrial uses such as power plants and gas stations. These reasons would contribute to a child’s sedentary lifestyle.
Aforementioned issues aside, children can still actively learn through daily occurrences. Parents should involve their child in what they are doing. For instance, when a mother is cooking, it is suggested that a child’s help with the seasoning of the dishes could provoke his or her curiosity. Additionally, they can learn about various ingredients and how they are produced. If a child wants to engage in physical intensive activity, then parents are advised to take them outside and let them play sports.
In conclusion, even though boredom and parent’s burden may be the reason for a child’s television addiction, I believe with meaningful family time, the problem can be mitigated
