In modern society, there is a growing debate that art lessons whether should be mandatory or optional in schools. Although minorly I acknowledge this due to a positive impact of art on pupils’ outlooks and perceptions, I predominantly disagree with this suggestion as children should have a right to choose whatever they want to be taught.
First of all, it is admitted by many that art plays a crucial role in enhancing children’s cognitive skills. After being aware of different types of art, various approaches to it, kids begin to analyse these pieces, contributing to making brain functions better. This in turn leads to certain improvements in learning skills and accelerates this process. Therefore, students who have been taught this subject tend to demonstrate great performance in other subjects. For instance, most students who have gotten admissions from top universities not only have had higher grades but also have engaged in playing the guitar or other musical instruments. That’s why some people, in particular, parents require making art an obligatory subject.
However, I believe that pupils should be free in decision-making process related to subjects since they will be more eager to study in this case. People cannot talk about any development on children’s abilities by forcing them to engage in art in spite of a lack of interest. Unlike this, if a person have a special passion for investigating something, spending time to this will definitely have a profound impact on their cognitive skills. For example, when I was a child, I used to solve a lot of math problems which helped me learn history without any difficulty. Therefore, I think schools should encourage kids to learn what they are willing rather than forcing them to study art.
In conclusion, even though art is considered one of significant columns on the brain development process of children, I completely disagree with the opinion that school authorities should make it mandatory subject, considering effectiveness of learning a desireable subject.
