Nowadays, the entertainment and sports sectors attract a lot of public attention, which helps them thrive. In comparison, important professions like engineers and doctors do not earn as much. This has sparked an ongoing debate between these two fields. This essay will explore both perspectives in detail before concluding with my own viewpoint.
Some argue that athletes should earn a significant amount of money because they are highly trained professionals who work hard for the enjoyment of the public. I agree that life would not be as joyful without art and performance. Additionally, there is an opinion that the entertainment industry contributes to the economic growth of a country, as well as the development of essential infrastructure. This is likely true; for example, hosting major tournaments can enhance a nation’s tourism sector, allowing hotels and hospitality businesses to profit, which in turn contributes to government revenue through taxes.
On the other hand, noble professions such as engineering, medicine, and law are the backbone of a nation. From an academic perspective and based on a country’s development index, these professions propel a nation forward. This is true because we cannot make progress in society solely by investing in entertainment professionals; they do not fulfill the essential roles required for development. In times of crisis, such as a pandemic or the need to renovate infrastructure, the most critical resources are doctors and engineers.
In conclusion, both perspectives hold validity; however, it would be better if we treated both fields equally. They are interdependent—if there are no sports, what infrastructure would engineers build, and if there are no athletes, where would players go for medical advice? The relationship between these sectors is crucial.
