Band 7+: Task 2: In many parts of the world, famous people are regarded as role models and they have an increasing influence on the young. Is this a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, celebrities often seem to be an inspiration for youngsters , which can really impact them. Both the positive and negative sides of this phenomenon should be considered.

One of the main reasons why famous figure are considered beneficial for new generation is that they provide motivation and inspiration. In other words, notable figures can often openly share their ways to achieve such advancement. For instance, their hard work and disciplined habits may influence people, encouraging perseverance and ambition. As a result, the young learn how to succeed in their careers and lives. A second positive aspect of this is the encouragement of civic engagement. To illustrate this point, famous people can participate in social campaigns or charity work, which often affects people, resulting in involvement in community services. Furthermore, this situation leads to increased awareness of social activities.

On the other hand, there are, however, also disadvantageous sides to this influence. First of all, being influenced by famous figures who show only their flawless lifestyles may make people feel pressured to look perfect or achieve unrealistic goals. To clarify, the idealised lifestyle requires people to live up to unrealistic expectations of beauty, wealth, and health. Another significant negative impact on the youth is the erosion of independent thinking. To illustrate, people who really worship celebrities believe their celebrities’ thoughts. This is mainly because, although the young know famous people sometimes show immoral behaviour, they start considering it as normal behavior, resulting in a reduction of independent thinking.

In conclusion, even though inspiration from notable figures can encourage the development of perseverance and engagement in civic organisations, unrealistic and immoral behaviour might adversely impact the new generation
