Nowadays, the celebrities’ influence on the young are much bigger than ever before, and numerous fans are starting to regard them as role models. From my perspective, this situation has both positive and negative effects.
On the one hand, it is beneficial if a celebrity sets a good example for their fans. By mirroring the idols’ good behaviours, their fans can improve themselves to be a better person. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo who is one of the greatest footballers, who has numerous supporters, is a great inspiration to his fans. Many children around the world are motivated by his discipline, passion and effort. Even many football stars admit that Ronaldo is their biggest idol.
On the other hand, regarding famous people as role models causes several problems. It is very dangerous if people idolise the wrong person. There are many cases where a criminal, who is a big fan of serial killers or terrorists, claims that their idol is right. Consequently, their minds are heavily impacted by their idol’ thoughts and actions; and they can easily become a danger to society. Moreover, if a celebrity is involved in a serious scandal, which can destroy every good image of them, their fans can lose their faith in the world. Because it is difficult for them to believe that their role model is not as good as they thought, they can no longer trust everything around them.
In conclusion, idolising famous people and seeing them as a mirror has both drawbacks and benefits. Although people can learn from their personalities ,they can also be affected when they do not support the right person. In my opinion, it is common when we consider our idols as role models because of their good traits and abilities but we should only support them to an extent.
