For instance, when children are allowed to choose and engage in activities they enjoy without parental influence, they tend to excel much quicker than if they were coerced, which in turn enhances their self-esteem.
On the other hand, the opposing viewpoint emphasizes the importance of parental supervision for several reasons, with children’s safety being the primary concern. Due to their vulnerable age, children are easily influenced and often become targets for negative influences. This concern is particularly relevant today, especially with the increasing popularity of the internet among children. For example, the ‘Elsagate’ controversy highlighted how videos labeled as ‘kid-friendly’ on YouTube contained harmful, violent, and absurd subliminal messages. For this reason, I agree that children’s activities should be closely monitored by parents.
In conclusion, opinions vary on whether children deserve more freedom or should be supervised by their parents. Personally, I believe that while children’s freedom, especially in decision-making, is crucial for personal development, the world is not as safe as we might think, and children often lack the judgment needed to navigate it. Thus, parental monitoring is essential.
