I completely agree with this view; as agricultural biotechnology not only enhances the yield of crops but also provide resistance to various insecticides and pathogens which damage cause damage to them.
To commence with, in order to solve the hunger crises, many researchers have adopted the route of genetic engineering to the crops, which ultimately boosts the production of staple grains on the same agricultural land, with this modifications helps in high yield output, which may not possible in conventional farming practices. Moreover, the modified plants fortification of the plants is also done, which helps to add suitable micronutrients and macronutrients which are necessary for the humans. So, additional expenses are not done on such nutritional things to buy seprately. To cite an example, with the help of advancement in agricultural biotechnology, scientists modified the rice with beta-carotene which helps in treatment of people suffering with night blindness.
To add further, another major benefit from such crops is that they provide higher resistant to environmental stressors and pathogens. Due to which less amount of chemical insecticides and pesticides are used. As a result of this, crops produced are free from harmful traces of chemical fertilizers which ultimately safeguards the health of the humans. Furthermore, genetically modified crops provide much higher shelf life as compared to traditional crops. So, too many such food products are stored for longer period of time without any damage and hence the food scarcity may not occur. For instance, according to World Health Organization, a major reduction in the post harvest losses was observed in past few years, especially to cereals and pulses who are genetically modified.
To sum up, population explosion is the most serious crises all across the world which causes hunger problems. However, to tackle this, scientists adopted have adopted transgenic crops which increase the harvest of crops and also provide maximum tolerance to harmful insects and climatic condition that might affect the crops.
