Many people supposed that the world should have a new general language due to communication and coordination. This essay aims to analyze and argue for the advantages and disadvantages of this opinion.
On the one hand, there are some obvious advantages that would arise. Firstly, a general language can help reduce the conflicts and rivalry between countries. In fact, nowadays English has become the global language because of its colonization and trade, then it has become a standard to communicate with foreign. It may cause some jealousy and argument from others as to why only one major language has been international, from this argument can lead to some conflicts between major countries due to the desire to dominate the world. Creating a new language can keep the peace environment and limit the military conflicts. Secondly, a new language makes communication more convenient in some international conferences. If all governments and presidents speak the new international language as a second one behind their mother tongue, they do not need any translator or translation devices when communicating with foreign peers, especially in global conferences and visiting other countries for economic and political purposes.
On the other hand, this is not to say that people should downplay the drawbacks of inventing a new language. First of all, it costs a lot of effort and time. Language is the definition of a variety of complexity with pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and so on. It requires learners to pay much hardship and time to learn properly and also it may be complicated to create a major language that can be accessible to all nations with different cultures. Another reason is that a new major language can pose a threat for minority languages. There are many minority languages which are at risk of dying out, because most speakers used to learn the major languages which can benefit them at work and life, so governments should preserve minority languages rather than inventing a new one, in terms of protecting their culture and traditional values.
In conclusion, there are plus points to originate a new international language regarding convenience and peace. However, the downside would emerge consequently in terms of much effort, time and threat to minority languages.
