In recent decades, using technology to interact with others has become an integral part of our lives. There are those who say that technology such as the internet and cell phones has beneficial effects; however, others believe that it is detrimental to human interactions. In this essay, I will examine the benefits and drawbacks of this issue.
From an overall perspective, there are two key advantages of incorporating technology into our relationships. Perhaps the main advantage of this issue is that it is easy to communicate. For example, social networking and matrimonial sites are really helpful for meeting new people with similar interests. A further point in favour of using technology in our relationships is that we can keep in touch with our near and dear ones who are living far away from us. Unlike in the past, when it took months to send letters abroad, people today can call or text anybody, anytime and anywhere in the world instantly.
Despite those arguments, there are also various disadvantages to using technology to establish and develop relationships. One of the most obvious of these is the privacy issue. This is because people often share their personal information, photos and other details online, which can sometimes be misused by others for cheating, crime or even blackmail. Secondly, communicating through technology can easily lead to misunderstandings. Since people cannot always see facial expressions or understand the tone of a message, they may interpret someone’s words in the wrong way. As a result, unnecessary arguments may arise, which can sometimes lead to break-ups and even divorce.
In conclusion, although technology such as the internet and mobile phones can make communication easier and help people maintain relationships over long distances, it can also create privacy problems and misunderstandings. Therefore, I believe that technology has both beneficial and detrimental effects on human interactions, and it should be used carefully and responsibly.
