The bar chart compares people’s buying and drinking habits of two kinds of beverages (coffee and tea) in five Australian cities.
Overall, in all cities except Adelaide, more people went to a cafe for coffee or tea than bought fresh or instant coffee. In Adelaide, going to a cafe and buying instant coffee were actually common
In terms of the three cities with the highest proportion of residents who preferred instant coffee than fresh coffee, Hobart, Brisbane, and Adelaide both stood at around 54%, 53%, and precisely 50%, respectively. In these three cities, the gap between the proportion of residents who preferred fresh coffee to instant coffee was quite high at around 15% each. Meanwhile, in two other cities, Sydney and Melbourne, the percentage of the population that bought instant coffee in the last four weeks stood at just below 50% and exactly 45%, respectively. Meanwhile, the amount of residents who preferred fresh coffee stood at around 42% and just below 45%, respectively.
In regard to the population that went to a cafe for coffee or tea in the last month in each of the five cities, the same trend was observed, except in Adelaide. Melbourne and Hobart were the two cities with the highest population that went to cafes, which stood at around 62% both. Then followed by Sydney and Brisbane, which stood at just above 60% and just above 55%, respectively. In contrast, below half of the population in Adelaide went to a cafe for coffee or tea in the last four weeks
