The map above illustrates the floor plan of the Central Library from 20 years ago to today. Many years have passed, the layout has changed compared to the past.
There was a corner specialised for CDs, videos, computer games, on the left hand of the entrance, but it has changed to a multifunctional zone, which can be used for storytelling events and children’s fiction books, respectively. Back then, you could find children’s books from the area across the multifunctional zone on the right hand of the entrance. Tables and chairs were located near the entrance as well.
In contrast, the latest design of the Central Library has been modernised. They originally used an enquiry desk for the visitors yet they have upgraded it to a self-service machine along with an information desk. The enquiry desk has been reconstructed to a café. Notably, tables and chairs have been removed to make it more spacious. The library has been established in a modern approach by adding a lecture room, categorising the books, and reinventing the reading room to a computer room. It is evident that technology holds a big role, as some of the conventional areas have been made into a technology-based corner.
Overall, the library has been through massive changes and complete make over of the area following the shifting caused by technology development.
