The diagram depicts how rainwater is collected and treated for the purpose of drinking water in an Australian town.

It is a simple and linear process with two main stages comprise of collecting rainwater and purifying it. The process consists of five steps, beginning with the capture of water when it rains, and ending with clean drinking water available inside people’s homes.

The collecting phase is conducted from the first to the third step. To begin with, water is captured on the roofs of people’s homes when it rains. Rainwater that slides off the rooftop runs down a pipe attached to the side of the houses, which leads to a drain. This stream of water then flows into one larger system, leading to a water filter so as to remove any impurities and residue.

The purifying process includes fourth and fifth step. Once the water is filtered, it is injected into large water storage tanks where it is kept to move on to the next step. From the storage tanks, the water is transferred to a water treatment tank where chemicals are added to it. Chemical is used to ensure that the water is safe from bacteria or germs, which is suitable for consumption. Finally, when the clean water is ready to be used, it naturally emerges from underground and runs directly to the taps inside people’s homes.
