Band 8: The differences between countries are becoming less and less evident, as people all over the world wear the same fashions, use the same brands, have similar eating habits and watch the same TV channels. It is clear that borders between nations are getting increasingly hazy in this constantly changing globe as more individuals use the same media. I continue to believe that this evolution has more advantages than disadvantages, notwithstanding some potential negatives.

The development of communication technology has made international language and cultural interactions easier. For instance, people in Vietnam can enroll in online English courses taught by Americans, which helps them learn more about other customs and civilizations while simultaneously improving their language proficiency. The more possibilities for sociability among individuals is another benefit. Teens, for example, use applications such as TikTokters to share dances with friends they have made abroad but haven’t had the chance to meet in person. In addition, one very beneficial thing that is worth mentioning is the exchange of government policies, which makes the world a better place overall. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, information sharing helped respond to the disease in several nations.

Globalization does, however, come with drawbacks. The loss of ancient customs is one such drawback, since they may eventually completely vanish and eventually mix in with other cultures. For example, during Christmas celebrations, the American invention of Santa Claus has eclipsed the belief in the birth of Christ. The spread of bad eating habits throughout various cultures is another drawback. Due to the widespread availability of fast food chains like McDonald’s and Starbucks, eating habits among adults and children globally have gotten considerably worse.

In conclusion, I feel that the benefits of linguistic and cultural exchanges, building new relationships, and exchanging political knowledge far outweigh the drawbacks of cultural sharing between nations, which include the loss of cultural identity and the detrimental effect on eating habits.
