Overall, while walking to work, in the first of the period, was the most common means, taking the car became the most popular in the last year.
Firstly, over than a third of travelers walked to work in 1960 that this was followed by cycling as the second common mode to back and forth to work by around 25%. People who took the bus made up about 17% of all commuters in that year. however, taking the car to work by just 5% was considered as the least common modes in 1960.
20 years later, roughly a quarter of people preferred to go to work by bus. While the popularity of walking and cycling decreased considerably and reached about 17% and 20%, respectively, using a car surged to 22%.
In 2000, in contrast to car, use of other modes of tranportation fell significantly. Whilst people who use bike to go to work constituted just 6% of all travelers, more than 35% chose car to commute to work. Taking bus and walking by 16% and 14%, respectively, were third and fourth means of transport. The popularity of motored means increased over the time frame.
