Band 5+: The first car appeared on British roads in 1888. By the year 2000 there may be as many as 29 million vehicles on British roads. Alternative forms of transport should be encouraged and international laws introduced to control car ownership and use. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Developing rapidly from the end of nineteenth century to 21st century, private cars have already unimaginably filled the traffic. Some people believe that other transportation option should be used to alter automobile as well as to introducing universal regulation to be able to control these vehicles usage and possession. I totally agree that other forms of transport should be promoted and international policy regarding car regulation should be produced in order to limit the possession of these vehicles since the more car is being produced, the more it would influence both our environment and our well-being.

If automobile production is exploding, there will be numerous environmental issues. Since cars produce carbon monoxide which is really dangerous for our air, it is important for government to promote another environmentally friendly vehicles to mitigate the effect. For example, government can encourage the citizen to use public transportation in order to reduce the reliance of private wheels. This campaign would be both beneficial for government revenue and our atmosphere since the reduction of carbon waste.

Aside of its influence to the environment, the explosion of private automobiles might also affect people mood because the fact that personal cars are one of the primary reasons of the traffic jam. People stuck for hours when going to work because of this issue which might deteriorate their well-being. Therefore, it is imperative to push the law towards personal vehicles possession to massively minimize cars ownership. Practically, government can either limit the car possession for certain numbers or increase the tax imposed for the customer. In turn, they will think twice before purchasing any personal wheels and choose to commute by using public train or bus instead.

In conclusion, private cars rapid development might lead to some issues related to environmental problem as well as traffic jam which drive the importance of alternative commuting option as well as regulation to prevent further explosion. Therefore, I totally believe that promoting optional vehicles and imposing new policy to limit the personal automobile ownership is necessary.
