There is disagreement regarding the issue of whether the government should infringe on people’s freedom for the security of society. The main point of contention is related to the appropriateness of the government action, but personally, I strongly believe that this infringement on people’s freedom should be prohibited because the freedom of society is on the top of priority we have made and the security of society is following.
In most cases, the infringing on freedom of society should be banned because this could potentially threaten the liberty. This is because protecting our freedom means that people stand against governments to keep our right as humanity has done within wars, protesting, claiming our rights. For example, If the government had monitored people’s daily life to secure society, there would be possibility to give someone who can look at all the people’s information significant power. As a result, the infringement makes citizens feel uncomfortable when they want to claim their rights and limit their behaviors to keep social liberty. This shows that infringing our liberty is not acceptable in most situations.
In contrast, it is true that allowing the government to limit people’s liberty can help a society to prevent from any unexpected threats. This is because if people don’t take care of themselves, there is no one securing a whole society. For example, all of the governments keep their airports safety with police force, security lines to prevent any terrorism, especially some places which is important and big-sized infrastructure. Thus, the visitors can feel comfortable and safe when they visit crowded places. This shows that limiting some part of freedom can increase the safety of the whole society.
In conclusion, infringing on the freedom is a contentious topic because there are many opinions that support and oppose this fundamental idea. However, I personally believe that the government should not infringe on the rights of citizen unless it is absolutely necessary.
