It is often argued that if a county creates a budget for arts, music and theatre is useless, the money should be allocated to public services instead. I personally disagree with that, because those are a form of national cultural identity and have it’s own benefits.
To begin with, if the government preserves its historical heritage by allocating a massive investment, it will be beneficial in several ways. Firstly, if the money is allocated to build arts infrastructure such as a museum or multifunctional building, it may generate revenue by selling tickets to people who come to visit. Furthermore, the buildings can be used for educational purposes especially for the young generation to know more about their cultural heritage. Secondly, artists from any type of art can utilize the multifunctional building for jamming, practice or doing a showcase. Thus, people will gather together and celebrate arts performance as their alternative to leisure activity.
In addition to this, in my opinion, arts, musicals and theatrical investment is also a form of public needs. Moreover, a nation not only should maintain its healthcare, education, and transportation system performance, but also the preservation of its art. In this globalization era, where cultural issues being one of a major problems for the youth, the government should take serious actions to prevent its future generation from experiencing an identity crisis.
To sum up, the benefits of giving the arts sector a certain amount of budget inside national budget planning is the right thing to do. This sector could bring its own economy and social impacts for the local citizens or foreign tourists.
