Presented above is a chart showing the average monthly change in prices of three transition metals which are copper, zinc, and nickel, during the year 2014. Values between the three metals varies, [with] some values only experience minor changes while some changes erratically. This analysis will mainly focus on nickel and zinc which are shown to have major changes happening across the year.
The most notable changes can be seen with the erratic value of nickel while zinc experiences a few changes, whereas copper only experiences minor changes. During July to September, the three values experience stagnancy.
At the start of the year, nickel sits at the top of the chart at 6% but slowly declines after a few months, reaching 0.5% in May before plummeting down to -3% in June. The value goes up to -1% in July and becomes stagnant until September. By November, the value can be seen going up to 1% and remains the same for the rest of the year.
Zinc on the other hand, experiences a steadier change in value, sitting at the bottom of the chart with 1% of value. Zinc value goes up by 2% after the first month, then slowly decreases until it reaches 1% by May. While not as big, zinc experiences a similar drop in value as nickel in June. The value of zinc also becomes stagnant from July to September, sitting at -0.5% value. The value quickly rises back up in November and is now sitting at 2% by the end of the year.
