Nowadays, advertisements have become more common part of people’s daily lives. While some people think this development has several advantages, I believe that disadvantages of advertising outweigh the benefits because it often encourage unnecessary consumption and can influence people’s decisions in manipulative ways.
To begin with, one possible advantage of advertising campaigns is that they educate consumers. Advertisements provide informations about products and services, such as their features, quality, materials and expiration dates. Because of this, people can make more informed decisions before buying something. Also, advertisments help people become aware of new products in the market and compare different options easier. This can help consumers choose products which suits their needs better.
However, I think the negative effects are more significant. Many advertisements are designed not only to inform people but also persuade them to buy things. Companies often use different marketing techniques, for example emotional appeals, special offers and messages which create fear of missing out. As result, customers may feel pressure to purchase products they do not really need. Sometimes people buy things impulsively and spend more money than they planned. This can cause financial problems for some individuals.
Another problem is that advertising can encourage overconsumption. When people are constantly exposed to advertisments, they may feel that buying more products will improve their lifestyle. This behaviour creates more waste and has negative effect on environment. Therefore, advertising does not only affect individuals but society as whole too.
In conclusion, although advertising can provide useful informations and help people learn about products, I believe its drawbacks are much greater because it often encourages excessive spending and manipulates consumers decisions.
