It is inevitable that the internet is crucial to the lives of the people of the 21st century because we can browse for many information that we need, look up the recent events and give suggestions about travelling and entertainment, however the information that are presented on the internet can be inaccurate or sometimes contain hoax. So in this essay, I will give my opinion on the internet whether it is totally beneficial/harmful or it could be helpful and harmful at the same time.
For starters, we can all agree that the daily information that are uploaded to the internet are very helpful, such as the weather report that can help us to decide what to wear or how should we prepare for the upcoming weather. Not to mention, students can also use the internet to find answers for their homeworks or even do a group discussion on the internet. However, news regarding celebrities can be very deter the functionality of the internet due to the competitors trying to defame or denigrate certain celebrities with false information or edited pictures, and also, even the educational websites can give false answer to students.
Moving on, we move to the disagreement regarding the statement that the information on the internet can be helpful but harmful at the same time. People who disagreed to this statement usually stood in the extreme polars of the internet, totally helpful or totally harmful. Why do they think it’s helpful? because they utilize the correct information for their own benefits and they are keen to discern correct and false information, and usually teenagers and millenials fall into this category. But, the Gen Z and the millenials, because they aren’t adapted to the technology as fast as the younger generation, they are likely to fall into the traps of online scams and misinformations on the internet, which will give them the view that the internet is a bad place to find information and would rather just stay in the old fashion way of newspaper and television.
In conclusion, I agree that the internet is a place that can lead us to beneficial and misleading information, however, the decision to choose the right information and spreading it to the people lies on us, so be responsible for the sake of the truth.
