Nowadays, the news media dominates people’s lives, and many people think it is a negative development. I fully agree with this view. The main reasons are fear and misleading information.
There are several reasons why I agree with that the news media’s dominance is a negative development. One of them is anxiety. In other words, when people are informed by criminal or disaster news, they may start to panic, which can negatively affect their mental health. For instance, a person who is constantly informed about serious crimes on the news may experience heightened fear and perceive the environment as more hazardous than it is. As a result, they might feel persistent anxiety and avoid going out at night, which can have a negative impact on both their mental health and overall quality of life.
In addition to fear, there is another reason, which is misinformation. To explain further, there is some false information that is made to only attract residents. Most of the time, fake news spreads rapidly through social media platforms and consequently, this can mislead large numbers of people and create confusion among people. For instance, the rapid sharing of unconfirmed reports about health remedies on social media can lead to people following unsafe practices and ignore proper medical advice, which may result in serious consequences for their well-being. This shows that people may harm their health and decision-making.
To sum up, I strongly agree that the overwhelming influence of news media is a negative development, primarily because it generates fear and spreads misleading information, which can have serious consequences for individuals’ overall well-being.
