Many individuals are of the opinion that media outlets should broadcast more positive information. I partly agree with this school of thought because although having more good news can create a sense of optimism among people, it can also make them off guard.
On the one hand, delivering more good news can embed in audiences a positive view of the world. This is because, in this day and age, social platforms or other digital media outlets are often considered the main source of information for most people. Many scientists have also proven that what appears in the digital realm in the current days can significantly shape individuals’ perspectives. Therefore, I opine that utilizing the media to spread positivity can be beneficial in instilling in people a country or a world surrounded by good things. For example, the Vietnamese government has long broadcast numerous TV shows telling positive stories in order to not only praise the ideology of helping those in need, but also instill optimism in underprivileged people. This underlines the importance of having more good news in this contemporary society.
Nevertheless, this approach can create a false impression among people. Since not everyone acknowledges that there is negativity existing alongside positivity, allowing more good news may negatively affect a group of individuals. Given that this strategy is indiscriminately implemented, many people may think that they are living in a utopian world where people live peacefully around others, rendering them unprepared for potential threats. As bad news plays a crucial role in cautioning audiences about the existing issues and possible dangers, mitigating it may not be a sound idea. This can be seen in the case of the US during the COVID-19 pandemic, where the government kept ignoring the threat of such a deadly virus and told its people that everything was under control. Consequently, due to the incautiousness, the pandemic spread severely across this nation.
In conclusion, I believe that even though delivering more positive news can transcend positivity, a more balanced approach should be carefully considered, as negative information can also play a pivotal role in cautioning people about potential dangers.
