Band 6+: The only reason people work hard is to earn more money. There are no other reasons to do it. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It has been argued that money is the only attribute that boosts the motivation of hard work over any other reason for doing that. Although money is an irreplaceable part of our lives, I believe that there are many factors accounting for their hard contribution including their passions and desires to devote to society.

On the one hand, it is undeniable that money’s power is the predominant factor behind employees’ diligence. Firstly, making a full attempt to earn more and more money is aimed at improving the conditions of living. In this day and age, every transaction on the market requires money to get the goods or services that people need. Especially, in the competitive market worldwide, making a decent income has nearly turned into a challenging issue as the increasing unemployment rate. This situation put the people into compulsive hard work to survive. Furthermore, many people want to pursue a life with material wealth. Such luxury items or opulent houses could bring people a sense of pleasure and satisfaction that compensates for their efforts in a diligent manner.

On the other hand, I think that many individuals spend a lot of time working due to their natural enthusiasm for their job. In some cases, some people choose a simple lifestyle as long as they can pursue their passion like working with things they are excited about. For instance, many medical scientists, are willing to work in the laboratory all day long to conduct research and do experiments aimed at improving overall human health. This desire for their roles is the effective motivation that pushes them to move ahead. Additionally, another reason that encourages them to work hard is to promote the community development. To demonstrate for this case, firefighters are cases in point. Their life always encounters many risky situations in the process of helping residents far exceed other causes, which helps create a secure environment for all citizens.

In conclusion, although money is a mandatory factor driving people to work hard to achieve pleasure sensation and a rich life, passion, and desire to contribute to society are also crucial reasons for diligently working. I believe people could get a greater sense of satisfaction when they consider other reasons.
