Nowadays, it is true that the rate of traffic lawbreakers is increasing, which is detrimental to our roads. While others believe the only way to improve road traffic safety is to give a heavy fine for them, I partly agree with this view. I would contend that there are some solutions to tackle this problem
On the one hand, stricter punishment has some benefits for our roads. Firstly, tt is a deterrent to those who intend or are likely to violate traffic laws. For example, in Vietnam driver do not wear a helmet, they will be reminded or warned, and if it is more serious, they will be fined from 500 to 1,000 million VND or have their vehicle documents kept. Since then, people have become more aware of obeying traffic laws when going out because the penalty affects their economy. Secondly, it reduces the rate of accidents on the roads. Most accidents come from illegal acts while driving such as going in the wrong lane, drinking alcohol, and running red lights, and they have their driver’s license confiscated or be banned from driving for some time. When the government imposes strict publishment on them and installs speed cameras everywhere, it helps people have better behavior and improves safety on the road.
On the other hand, I would contend that the other way to tackle this problem is to raise people’s awareness. Local authorities educate people in improving their understanding of the consequences of traffic safety violations on public transport or residential areas. That way, people will be more aware of their behavior when participating in information
In conclusion, imposing strict punishment on driving offenses is the most effective way to improve road traffic safety. However I would contend that this is not the optimal way and this problem could be tackled by raising people’s awareness.
