Band 7+: The rising cost and decreasing supply of fossil fuels such as oil and gas, along with environmental concerns, means that their continued use as our main source of energy is impractical and alternative sources must be found. The only realistic alternative is nuclear energy. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The prevalent reliance on fossil fuels has provoked rising costs, diminishing supply of oil and gas, and significant environmental concerns, demonstrating the necessity to explore alternative energy sources. I concur that nuclear energy is the only efficient alternative, offering numerous advantages such as decreased CO2 emissions and an abundance of resources, despite the fact some people advocate for the adoption of renewable energy sources.

Primarily, utilizing nuclear energy is a more environmentally sustainable option compared to current power generation methods. The combustion of fossil fuels contributes substantially to the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which have emerged as catalysts for severe environmental issues, including climate change and pollution. In contrast, nuclear energy presents a viable solution to these problems, providing a more eco-friendly approach to energy generation. Furthermore, the replacement process can positively influence the economies of certain countries, since many of them are rich in uranium and other radioactive minerals, including Kazakhstan, which ranks second in the list of the largest stockpiles of uranium. According to those factors, it can be inferred that nuclear energy generally can effectively replace traditional ways of energy production.

While the benefits of nuclear energy are substantial, not all individuals can accept this alternative, stating that renewable energy sources have to be used as a replacement for fossil fuels since they do not impact the ecosystem adversely compared to other ones. Indeed, the integration of renewable resources such as wind or water can greatly assist in mitigating carbon emissions, however, it is equally crucial to recognize plenty of challenges that occur in implementing technologies for these purposes, requiring enormous amounts of power to construct energy production systems and leading to increased consumption of fossil fuels during the development phase.

In conclusion, to alleviate the adverse effects on the environment and expand possibilities for governments, nuclear energy is the most viable candidate for future global energy needs. Although renewable materials can be used in specific contexts, their efficiency is often hindered by implementation challenges.

Fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal are becoming more expensive and harmful to the environment. As a result, some people believe that nuclear power is the only solution to thisproblem. Whilst I partly agree with this view, given that nuclear energy is highly viable, renewable sources like wind and solar are also accessible […]
