Band 6+: The shortage of housing in big cities can cause severe consequences. Only government action can solve this problem. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Urban areas face reduction in the number of houses which can lead to stringent outcomes. The majority of people believe that only authorities can take steps for this issue. I completely agree with this statement as government can enact a law to tackle this problem.

Firstly, lack of flats and houses in cities can lead to homelessness. Being unable to find any residential areas, individuals stay at hotels or with their relatives. Nonetheless, as this process is temporary, they have to face with the same situation. Furthermore, since these persons spend their time in the streets and parks, they can experience some health issues. For example, according to research, in Japan, the highest proportion of death is seen among the elderly people who are homeless. Moreover, the other social consequence is possibility of rising theft rates. People who cannot find any dwelling areas can see robbery, burglary as a solution getting money for providing themselves with living standards.

Nonetheless, authority policies can be done to preclude the number of houses from falling. They can take some financial measures such as allocating money for erecting new buildings for homeless people. Additionally, government can also provide local people with temporary free shelters until the time that they can already move to a real abode. To cite an example, in 2004, Brazilian government built up cottages on the river banks for people who spend their nights with sleeping in parks on benches.

To summarize, although some people can reside outdoors due to the lack of housing, some people opine that authorities can find solutions for this. I agree with that statement, and I believe that government members can address this situation by building extra abodes and also constructing some temporary shelters.
