The extent to which the humans are copying one another is reflected in their choice of fashionable clothes and consumer products. As per my perspective, I largely agree with this notion because everyone is following the same social media trends and are under the influence of globalisation. My inclinations toward this topic are further elaborated with appropriate examples in the following paragraphs.
First and foremost, social media plays a pivotal role in the modern society. The influence of social media is substantial on the lives of human beings. Everybody seems to use social media nowadays, leading them to follow the fashion and consumerism trends. Many social media influencers post fashionable get-ready-with-me contents online, which lasts a longing impression on others’ minds. In order to follow the same, they buy fashionable clothes that has been trending online. Furthermore, content creators are paid to advertise certain products on their social media handles, which amazes the people due to the way they make them attractable. For example, many companies such as ‘Bella vita’ or ‘Cetaphil’ are conducting paid promotions using which the influencers promote their products in an effective way. As a result, the youngsters copy these trends and buy the same products everyone is buying online.
Besides this, another reason for my agreement is due to the globalisation of many global brands in the country. Global brands’ products are now easily available in India. Those brands are believed to be delivering better quality than the local brands. This is a common misbelief that the citizens have spread and everyone is seemed to be following the same. They believe that only the multinational companies could provide better quality and longevity, in order to compensate the cost they spend behind it. For instance, people in the urban cities are now buying clothes and products from popular malls only, as a result of availability of global brands, such as Under Armour or ZARA in those malls.
However, there are some arguments too regarding this notion. Many elderly people believe in buying from trusted producers or retailers only. They feel that these popular fashion trends are not reliable to follow. They usually stick to the old ways of buying because they could trust the shops or the clothing stores, they have been going to. To illustrate, in many joint families, the older generation is against buying new equipment and clothes frequently because they believe in using the things they already have to its fullest. Therefore, most people are copying these trends, but few people do know their roots and culture good enough to not get influenced by it.
In a nutshell, although having some disagreements, I strongly agree the extent of the people copying one another, in terms of fashion in clothes and consumer products is more. This notion is widely contributed by the social media trends and increased globalisation.
