Smartphones nowadays play a crucial role in humans’ lives, and we couldn’t live without them. Since people spend too much time on mobile devices, it’s now being considered addictive, and many experts think that using handheld devices is as antisocial as smoking. Because many sites have restricted smoking, mobile phones should also be prohibited. As a user, I somewhat disagree, and in this article, I will provide evidence in favor of my viewpoints on the subject.
There is an undeniable trend in people’s addiction to their smartphones, and it threatens their overall social health as it brings a lot of mental disorders to a wide variety of people. A study shows that people who are addicted to smartphones are less likely to want to go out. They just want to be in their house, watching their phones, and playing games. It makes them less social and raises the chance of having depression by quite a lot. In addition, many people are so addicted that they also use their phones while traveling on the roads, which may cause traffic accidents that can be lethal to both them and the person who is unlucky to be hit.
Although it might be scary to think about that, mobile phones are not like cigarettes. While cigarettes can cause cancer and other dangerous health issues, smartphones are one of the most important tools for people to work, study, or do anything. If we ban handheld devices in some places, it just doesn’t work. Recent research shows that 95% of all citizens now have at least one device that helps them communicate. For instance, imagine someone is sick in the hospital, and because smoking is banned there, mobile devices can’t be used in that environment, and the doctor couldn’t call the patient’s relatives because of that. It would be a frustrating situation for both sides.
In conclusion, although the usage of smart handheld devices is considered as antisocial as smoking, it shouldn’t be banned due to the reasons above.
